The History of the Firm

M. Hamel-Smith & Co was founded by Michael (“Mikey”) Hamel-Smith in 1909, immediately upon his admission to practice as a Solicitor. Michael and his brother Knolly, who joined him in practice in 1914, created a boundless legacy of client-based service and professional integrity. Finding its beginnings as a family Firm, the great tradition of M. Hamel-Smith & Co., which now trades under the brand Hamel-Smith, continues and now boasts over 18 Attorneys.

The growth and development of the Firm has survived the turbulent and varied realities of life in Trinidad and Tobago through its evolution from a British Crown Colony to an Independent Republic, all while guiding individuals and corporate entities in Trinidad and Tobago to find justice, legal representation and personal security.

Today, the Firm is a general commercial and civil practice law firm providing legal advice and representation for Corporate and Commercial issues, Banking and Financial Services, Capital Markets and Securities, Litigation and Dispute Resolution, Tax, Energy, Intellectual Property and Real Estate.
